Millbank - A Visit You’ll Remember!

Located just minutes north of Stratford on Perth Road 121, or a short drive from Kitchener-Waterloo, the village of Millbank has many treasures waiting to be discovered. Millbank was founded in 1848 by a group of settlers from Northern Ireland. Although they were never acquainted with pioneer life, they transformed the virgin forest into productive farmlands and an enterprising community. Situated alongside the Nith River they erected the first sawmill and grist mill in the township. The picturesque scene of the mill on the bank of the river gave way to the name Millbank, by which the village has since been known.

Today as you visit the Millbank area, the echoes of the past still murmur on, as evident in the many unique stops along the way. The village itself is filled with a wide variety of stores that are sure to entice you to take a closer look. Our handcrafted furniture, quilts, antiques and collectibles, crafts and gifts are all of the finest quality. For those who love cheese, a trip to the Millbank Cheese Factory is a must. Come in and sample the large variety of locally produced cheeses. Then wander over to Anna Mae’s for unique tastes of old fashioned down-home county cooking. We guarantee you will leave fully satisfied.

For an exciting family experience be sure to explore the world’s largest corn maze. Located just outside of the community of Newton, the Ontario Maze provides a challenging adventure for all ages, featuring a labyrinth, miniature golf and a straw museum. Each year the maze takes on a different them, with past designs including a map of the world and the solar system. While in Newton be sure to visit the wonderful fabric and craft stores.

Your visit to the Millbank area would not be complete if you did not share the parking space with a horse-drawn buggy or two, as the Amish and Old Order Mennonites come to town to do their shopping. For a better understanding of their way of life, contact the Millbank Information Centre at and make an appointment to see the video The Amish: A People of Preservation.

Stay with us a while and indulge in some wonderful food, go shopping like you have never experienced before and then relax and put your feet up in one of our pampering bed and breakfasts. All of this and much more promise to make this a visit you’ll remember.
