Off the Beaten Track

There is so much to see in Perth County just off the beaten track and we want you to experience as much of it as you can. So check your fluids and get set to ride some of our scenic tours. Our new trail map offers motorcycle and cycle routes. Try one, try them all, or improvise and blaze your own trails. While you’re out soaking up the scenery be sure to drop by some of the great shops and restaurants you'll encounter along the way. There are many great places to stay and things to do as well. Antiques and Unique Shops await you in The Hamlet of Shakespeare known as the Antique Capital. Stroll along the main road to find the most fabulous shops and antique centers. You could spend an entire day wandering in and out of the little specialty shops. A pleasant relaxed day of shopping and treasure hunting!

A Day to the North

The community of Listowel extends a warm invitation for you to spend a leisurely afternoon meandering through the wonderful and unique shops. For the avid green thumb, we also have a variety of garden centers where you can get some friendly advice on the upcoming season. Another shopping highlight in the Listowel area are the factory outlet stores. Drop by our Yarn Factory Outlet to check out their large selection of yarns and crafts, and stop by Carson's Market to buy local foods. Enjoy the day golfing at Listowel’s 27-hole golf course. Don’t be surprised if you see a horse and buggy driving along the road with you! End your evening at a fine dining restaurant and see a lighthearted play at our local Theatre.

The outdoors awaits for everyone to explore on the West Perth Thames Nature Trail and Wetlands. The trail is varied with natural wetland, upland and aquatic areas. Activities for all ages and fitness levels are available including hiking, cycling, walking, bird watching and photography. Family fun abounds at Lions Park where you can visit the animal farm, enjoy a picnic along Mill Pond or discover the aquatic education station.

Turn Back your Clocks

As you visit Millbank, Newton and Milverton areas today, echoes of the past murmur on, as is evident in the many unique shops around the three towns. A wide variety of stores display handcrafted quilts, furniture, antiques, collectibles, crafts, gifts, hardware, garden centre, meats, cheese and fruits of the finest quality. Share your parking space in Millbank, Newton and Milverton with horse-drawn buggies as the Old Order Amish and Mennonites do their shopping. Farm Freshness/Amazing Restaurants

Perth County is blessed with wonderful agriculture. There is farm freshness on every corner, from seasonal vegetables to flowers. Stop at anyone of the road side “self serve” stations. Pick what you like and deposit your money in the container and off you go. Pick strawberries or raspberries off the vines, pick your own pumpkin, and collect your own eggs. There is nothing better then fresh produce. We are also very proud of our Farmers Markets around the Perth County area where you can find numerous produce, meats, cheeses and maple syrup. You can pick up your Farm to Table Map with over 60 listed Farm gate sales. Perth County offers some of the best restaurants in the area. They specialize in homemade goodness. From flour to dough to baked, everything is fresh and made from scratch!

Take the scenic Route to St Marys “The Stonetown”

In 1841, St. Marys became known as ‘The Stonetown’ due to its wondrous architectural structures rendered in local limestone. Today, fine examples of the early stonemasons’ craft, all quarried locally, include the town hall, museum, historic opera house, library, the old water tower, and railway viaducts. If recreational activities are where your interests lie – hike along the Grand Trunk Trail or scenic 1.5 km Riverview Walkway along the eastern bank of the Thames River. Visit the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum with one unique museum, 3 amazing ball fields and 32 acres of parkland. Enjoy a nice cool dip in the crystal clear water of the renowned Quarry, Canada’s largest outdoor swimming pool.
