Welcome to the Municipality of West Perth
Where small town charm and hospitality meets nature's splendour - "Come for the day! You just may stay for a lifetime."
Located along the original Huron Tract are communities such as Mitchell, Dublin and St. Columban. West Perth is a well known birder's paradise with 20 hectares of wetlands offering endless beauty and a place to observe blue herons and other rare species of birds in their natural habitats. The nature trail that winds along the banks of the north branch of the Thames River is a photographer's paradise and accessible to everyone, whether you are a pleasure walker, jogger, hiker, birder, use a wheelchair, motorized scooter, or push a baby stroller.
All four seasons are a pleasure in West Perth. In February, venture out on the Lantern Walk, a romantic night-time nature experience where the wetland trails are magically lit with hundreds of handcrafted lanterns. When March rolls around, celebrate Canadiana at the Hibbert Maple Syrup Festival near Staffa. Take a horse-drawn wagon ride to see how maple syrup is made and enjoy old-fashioned community fellowship at the Dublin Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. The Town of Mitchell also offers many fun activities for the whole family. Show your true spirit at the annual Canada Day festivities that include a parade, barbeque, great music and fun games.
You don't want to miss Corn Daze, where music, corn-on-the cob, and fun go hand-in hand. Cool down on hot summer days by taking a refreshing swim at the Mitchell Lions Pool; drop by to see the animals at the tiny zoo in Lions Park. Wrap up the summer by watching the parade and then make your way into the Mitchell Fair. Venture out on the self-guided Heritage Walking Tour to see some of Mitchell's majestic mansions, and explore the downtown for great places to eat, shop and relax. Buy local and farm-fresh food at the Farmers' Market on Friday mornings between May and October. Whatever your handicap you'll be pleasantly challenged by Mitchell's golf course. Sports fact: hockey legend Howie Morenz called Mitchell home as a child.
If you're looking for an old-fashioned general store experience, stop by Wietersen's Country Store in Bornholm. This quaint little shop from days gone by sells nearly everything you can imagine, from locally baked goods to fencing and feeding needs for the farm. If you're heading west, be sure to stop in Dublin, also known as Ontario's furniture village, for décor touches and focal points.
